Kia Wiper Service Position

Maintaining clear visibility is a cornerstone of safe driving, and that starts with well-kept wiper blades. Modern Kia models like the all-electric EV9, EV5, and upcoming EV3 feature a sleek, aerodynamic design where the wipers park discreetly under the rear edge of the hood. This looks fantastic but can make routine maintenance like blade replacement or cleaning a bit tricky.

Fortunately, Kia has integrated a clever “Wiper Service Mode” to easily lift the wipers into an accessible, upright position. If you’ve been searching online, you may have found conflicting advice. The correct process is straightforward, but timing is key!

Here’s your step-by-step guide to activating Wiper Service Mode on your newer Kia.

For Kia Vehicles with Keyless Start (Push-Button Ignition):

  1. Prepare the Ignition:
Press the START button twice without pressing the brake pedal. This will turn the ignition to the ON position, powering up the dashboard. Then, press the START button again to turn the ignition completely OFF.

  2. Activate Wiper Service Mode:
You now have 20 seconds to complete the next step. Raise the wiper control stalk upwards (as if activating a single wipe) and hold it for more than 2 seconds. The wiper arms will automatically cycle up to a vertical position on the windshield and stop, giving you full access.

  3. Return to Normal Operation:
Once you have finished servicing the wipers, simply start the vehicle normally (by pressing the brake and then the START button). The wipers will automatically return to their hidden resting position under the hood when you power the car on.

For Kia Vehicles with a Traditional Key Ignition:

  1. Prepare the Ignition:
Insert the key and turn the ignition to the ON position (but do not start the engine). Then, turn the key back to the OFF position and remove it from the ignition.

  2. Activate Wiper Service Mode:
You now have 20 seconds to complete the next step. Raise the wiper control stalk upwards (as if activating a single wipe) and hold it for more than 2 seconds. The wiper arms will automatically cycle up to a vertical position on the windshield and stop.

  3. Return to Normal Operation:
After your maintenance is complete, insert the key and start the engine as usual. The wipers will reset and park back under the hood.

Pro Tip: If holding the stalk upwards doesn’t work on your specific model, try the same timing and method but push the stalk downward into the MIST position and hold it for 2 seconds. Different model years may use a slightly different signal, but the 20-second window after turning the ignition off is consistent.

This intelligent feature highlights how Kia blends stylish, futuristic design with user-friendly practicality. Whether you’re swapping out old blades for new ones or giving them a quick clean, the wiper service mode makes it a simple, hassle-free process.

Keep your vision clear and your Kia in peak condition for every drive ahead.
